Today’s Prayer Challenge: Practicing Self-Control

Penn-Speaks-Prayer-Challenge

“5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.” ~ Colossians 3:5 — 7 (KJV)

Dear Lord,

We first and foremost come to You giving You all the praise, glory, and honor as the one and only true and living God. We thank You for salvation — sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins so that we can have eternal life with You in heaven. Please forgive us of our sins, and we thank You in advance for helping us to overcome our weaknesses and shortcomings.

Lord, we come with a special prayer today that You will help us to exhibit a little self-control in this world. Father, we live in a time where sexual promiscuity, covetousness, and lack of spirituality are condoned and even encouraged. May we stay rooted in Your Word and not allow our minds to be taken with such flippant mentality. Lord, You have set these rules in order for our own good. If we ever doubted, all we have to do is look at the damage done to the people around us due to such behavior. Thank You for having our best interest at heart, and thank You for helping us not to destroy ourselves.

It is in the magnificent name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that we pray. Amen.
