Ever wish that you had the power to bring down your enemies without laying a single hand on them or putting yourself in harm’s way? Well the truth is, God has already invested that power in you. This brings us to our key text coming out of Philippians 1:28 (KJV). The first portion of verse 27 is simply given for context. The Word of the Lord reads:
27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ….28 And in nothing [be] terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
As Apostle Paul addresses the Philippians, he tells them that they should not fear a single enemy. More specifically he states, “…in NOTHING be terrified.” If we are going to be honest with ourselves, this is most absolutely easier said than done. Do not be alarmed that the slightest bit of fear may still creep up in you when you are trying so hard to stand on God’s Word. We are only human. After all, the Bible tells us that all it takes is a mustard seed of faith to move a mountain. What should help knock out that last bit of fright, however, is that the Word of God tells us our fearlessness is in itself a blow to our enemies. According to the Collins English Dictionary, perdition is final and irrevocable spiritual ruin — utter disaster, ruin, or destruction. When we are fearless, we literally have the power to take our enemies out. Fearlessness does not simply make us feel better. It literally dismantles our foes.
Lastly but certainly not least, our fearlessness is our salvation by way of God. That is because fearlessness is synonymous with faith — our trust in the Lord. That same trust in Jesus that brings about our salvation is the same trust — the same faith — that keeps us, as Christ’s sheep, safe in the midst of wolves. “The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want…Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For, thou art with me.”
Have a blessed day, and in NOTHING be terrified by your adversaries!
