The Armor of God is…What Exactly? Part IV: A Shield of Faith

Let us dive right into our key text coming out of Ephesians 6:14 — 17 (KJV) with an emphasis on verse 16 and the shield of faith. The Word of the Lord reads:

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Though functional throughout the body, the Word of God gives us strategic placement for all of the elements of spiritual armor. Faith, however, is uniquely free ranged. Truth specifically wraps around our loins. Righteousness is specially designed to cover our chest. Peace covers our feet, but faith as a shield, we are able to move about freely and cover whatever we need to — in addition to the armor already present. For example, if one of those fiery darts of the wicked was shooting straight towards your chest, you wouldn’t simply toss your shield aside and say, “Oh, no worries. I have a breastplate.” No, your instinct would likely be to pull your shield in to your chest to block the impact of the blow coming your way. On that note, faith should become instinctive for us as believers. Our faith — our trust in the Lord — is like our first line of defense against attacks from the enemy. If we catch the darts of the wicked with our shield faith, they will be demolished, and we will not feel that blow to our chest, midsection, or feet. Let us not forget that the Lord has blessed us with the power of the shield of faith. May we use to our advantage what our Heavenly Father has given us.
Have a blessed day!
