Today’s Prayer Challenge: Honoring My Parents Even in Old Age

“1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” ~ Ephesians 6:1 — 3 (KJV)

Dear Lord,

We first and foremost come to You giving You all the praise, glory, and honor as the one and only true and living God. We thank You for salvation — sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins so that we can have eternal life with You in heaven. Please forgive us of our sins, and we thank You in advance for helping us to overcome our weaknesses and shortcomings.

Lord, we come with a special prayer today that You will help us to never feel that we are too old to obey and honor our parents. No, we may no longer be of the age where we’re told not to spoil our appetites with candy. However, we are never too grown to heed the wisdom and advice our parents have accumulated in the years You have allowed them to walk this earth. May we be able to offer the same to our children, and may their hearts be receptive to our guidance. Lastly, Father, we thank You for the days You add to our lives when we honor our mothers and fathers.

It is in the magnificent name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that we pray. Amen.
