Hello All Christian News Family!
Many psychology experts claim that disciplining children by means of corporal punishment is traumatizing and subsequently unhealthy for young ones. As believers, however, we must listen to what the Bible has to say on these matters and not be swayed by the ways of this world. Just ask the average school teacher. I bet they would tell you they wish children had more discipline at home. Children have not been getting more well mannered with the passing of the years. It has been getting worse, and this is arguable due to the fact that appropriate discipline in the home is on the decline. This brings us to our key text coming out of Proverbs 13:24 (KJV). The Word of the Lord reads:
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him early.
The inspired Word of God makes it very clear that corporal chastisement plays an important role in training up a child in the way he or she should go. In fact, this is not the only passage in the Bible addressing this issue. If you really do love your children, you will not let them grow up devoid of morals and leading a reckless life capable of harming themselves or others. Better yet, the scriptures say that if you love your children, you will utilize this discipline early. The longer you let children get away with wayward behavior, the harder it is to raise a respectable adult. In other words, don’t wait until your children are 10 years old to decide it’s time for them to follow your instructions. By that time, they already have it in their heads that they are the only authority they need to listen to. This will put them at a great disadvantage not only in school but ultimately in the workplace they will be depending on for their livelihood.
Corporal discipline is only abuse when taken too far. A child should never walk away with bruises or broken bones. They should walk away knowing that they don’t ever want to do whatever “that” was again. Yes, when your children do something wrong you can talk to them. You can make them do extra chores. You can withhold TV privileges or rights to dessert. Sometimes, however, those things just don’t cut it, and you have to break out that belt, and take it to a backside. Here’s to reversing the current curse of every generation only getting worse!
Have a blessed day!
