“Ponytail: A Poem for Gabby Douglas” by Jasmine Waiters

Oh yeah, now this is what I’m talking about — using poetry to positively impact society through raising awareness, provoking deep thought, and inward reflection. This young lady, by the name of Jasmine Waiters wrote a poem in honor of Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas. She calls upon the members of the African-American community to look beyond Gabby’s hair and focus on her accomplishments and the mark she has made in history not only for herself but for her people. Check out this viral video by Jasmine Waiters. Enjoy!
