Plaxico Burress Strikes Deal with NY Jets for a Year

Plaxico Burress has found a new home in the NFL after sitting out for two whole seasons. Burress has worked out a contract to play for the New York Jets. The deal entails $3.017 million in exchange for one year of tackles, sprints, and touchdowns. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is wholly guaranteed. Yahoo Sports reports that sources ” indicate that the extra $17,000 in the total was a small vanity point, as Burress’ jersey number was (and is) No. 17.”

Burress had a few good words to say on July 30th about his new head coach, Rex Ryan. He released a public statement saying, “I know they have a good team and everybody knows Rex…I think he’s great. He stands behind his players, I think his players have a lot of respect for him, and they play hard for him…He’s a great coach, great personality. He seems like he’s always upbeat.”

Getting signed with the Jets is a great accomplishment for Burress seeing as he was out for two seasons due to being imprisoned. Burress was serving time behind bars for attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He plead guilty after his illegal possession of the weapon was revealed when he accidently shot himself in the thigh while at a New York nightclub. Now, perhaps signing with the Jets is Burress’ big chance to make his comeback.
