Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush is crossing over from New Orleans to Miami. The deal went down on Thursday with the Miami Dolphins negotiating Bush’s new contract. ESPN reports that “Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed the deal, which sends reserve safety Jonathon Amaya to New Orleans and also involves an exchange of undisclosed draft picks. Bush agreed to a two-year contract for nearly $10 million with the Dolphins, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Thursday.” According to reports, Bush was supposed to make approximately $11.8 million dollars this season in the final year of his contract. It would not have been easy, however, for them to pay him this amount due to current salary restrictions.
Today is Miami’s official announcement of the trade, and Bush appears to be pleased with the way things worked out for him in the continuance of his NFL career. He tweeted, “Change is never easy but I look forward to building something special in Miami and can’t wait to embark on this new journey!/ To the city of New Orleans you will always have a place in my heart./ I love you guys you are my family & I will never forget our good times./ I wish the New Orleans Saints the best of luck I will always be a fan! The team, coaches, and fans will be deeply missed!”
