A new Ohio State University study might make ladies think twice about having children prior to marriage. TheLoop21 reports that “a new study by Ohio State University is saying that single mothers end up less healthy by age 40 than their counterparts who put off child birth until they got married.”
The study included 4,000 women and lasted over a 30 year span. The women were interviewed between the ages of 14 and 22 in 1979. They were also interviewed for all the subsequent years leading up to 1994. From there, the women in the study were interviewed every two years until 2008. TheLoop21 reports that the study found that “stress, high blood pressure, and high sugar levels were among the detriments discovered….For white and Hispanic women who married the biological father later on in life, their health improved. But for the black women, there was no proven beneficial effect.”
