Alicia Keys is now taking her talents to Broadway. She will not be the one in the spotlight, but she will be working her magic offstage as one of the producers of the play entitled “Stick Fly.” The piece is by Lydia R. Diamond, a Boston University playwriting professor. According to the Associated Press, this play is “described as a contemporary comedy of manners revolving around an affluent black family [and] Keys says it’s a story that everyone can relate to.”
Diamond is also known for her rendition of Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye” and is the author of “Stage Black” and “The Gift Horse.” Having already been performed in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Boston, “Stick Fly” is scheduled to officially open in New York on December 8th. However, the Associated Press reports that performances will begin as early as November 18th at the Lyceum Theater on 45th Street.
