The Las Vegas chapter of 100 Black Men is taking steps to put our black youth on track with their mentoring program called the 100 Academy of Excellence. Shawn Smith is the academy’s assistant principal who helps run the nonprofit program created to encourage not only black males but males and females of all ethnicities. Smith says, “We’re trying to teach strategic thinking. We want them thinking ahead. If I make this move, this will happen.”
The mentoring program is offered weekly at 2341 Comstock Drive. They also mentor at Wendell P. Williams and Mackey elementary when school is in session for the year. 100 Black Men is making a positive move in the right direction to help bring our black youth along the successful path. Instilling values of good work ethic must begin at an early age, and the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas are capitalizing on that truth.
