African Americans are dominating the world — not exactly, but we could be on our way. Throughout the history of the United States, whites have always been the dominant race, but in recent times that has been threatened. According to a recent preliminary U.S. census, minorities comprise the greater percentage of infants. This is due in part to a widening rift between aging whites and a greater number of minority youth that — according to the Associated Press — “could reshape government policies.”
The Associated Press also reports that “demographers say the numbers provide the clearest confirmation yet of a changing social order, one in which racial and ethnic minorities will become the U.S. majority by mid century.” Whereas the final 2010 census findings will be revealed this summer, the latter information is based on the most recent data collected. It is also a pretty accurate precursor to the final results which will be more detailed with householder relationships, race, and age breakdowns.
