Another government official is being accused of inappropriate conduct with a female. According to reports, as of Wednesday, the congressional ethics office is investigating Winsome Packer’s claim against Florida congressman Alcee Hastings. Packer claims that she was sexually harassed by Hastings when she was a part of his staff. President of the Judicial Watch, Tom Fitton, confirmed that Packer has met with the Office of Congressional Ethics concerning her claim. Fitton stated, “She is cooperating with investigators.”
Hastings’ attorney, Tonya Robinson, says that her client denies the charges. Specifically, she states, “Mr. Hastings has stated unequivocally that the plaintiff’s claims are untruthful and without merit.” She also added that “preliminary ethics inquiries are confidential matters under the relevant rules.”
According to reports from the Associate Press, the Office of Congressional Ethics “has no disciplinary powers, and it can only recommend further investigation by the House ethics committee. The Office of Congressional Ethics had no comment.”
