Soon they’ll deep fry the entire fair, I declare. After fried Twinkies, fried lemonade, fried beer, fried butter, and fried Oreos what more could there be? Fried Kool-Aid balls, my friend! This maybe-delectable treat has not hit the state fair yet, but it is predicted that it will sell just as well there if not even better than at San Diego County Fair. Sales at the latter event were not too shabby with 400 – 600 balls flying out of the grease and into eager hands daily.
The great mind behind this strange taste-bud teaser is Charlie Boghosian. He says that he loved Kool-Aid growing up and decided to “fry it and see what happens.” For those who get goosebumps at the thought of taking a crisp bite out of their childhood cup of “tea,” Boghosian describes his creation as “kind of like donuts holes.” He blends flour, water, and Kool-Aid to doughy perfection then drops balls of it into the fryer.
News of the fried Kool-Aid balls has been flying across Twitter — already. It looks like soon this treat of sorts will be right on up there with the other fried and glorified fair food goods.
