Aretha Franklin Trips Over Jimmy Choo

by Ayvaunn Penn, Your Black World

Even the Queen of Soul gets tripped up over a man every now and then — well not exactly how you’re thinking about it. Last week, Aretha Franklin broke the big toe on her left foot when she stumbled on a pair of her designer shoes by Jimmy Choo. Her representative announced the news on Tuesday.

Tracy Jordan — Franklin’s spokesperson — said that the singer was packing her bags at her Texas hotel room after a private performance when she tripped on the shoe. Specifically, Jordan said that “the heel of the shoe ‘wrapped around’ Franklin’s big toe on her left foot” causing the fracture. At the time of the accident, however, Franklin did no realize that there was a more serious problem with her toe. It was not until a few days into her concert tour that she went to a hospital in Indiana and found out that her toe was broken. This is when she recieved her new concert footwear — a wooden platform boot draped with a blue sash. That’s just my fancy way of saying she’s got a wooden medical boot covered in blue cloth on her foot.

Franklin said, “The first question was, ‘How am I going to get this shoe to match my gown?'” when she found out about her fractured toe and the boot she would have to wear. Aretha, you just describe that boot like I did, and it will match whatever you tell it to match.
