Well what really happened is New Jersey police believed Kenny Britt possessed marijuana, so they tried to arrest him. This Tennessee Titans football player was not having that, so he tried to resist. Ultimately on that Wednesday, he was brought down and arrested on charges of obstructing the administration of the law, resisting arrest, and tampering with or fabricating evidence. All of this occurred just one day after Britt was in court for traffic charges.
According to the Associated Press, Sgt. Sam Williams said:
“… the detectives from the city’s vice squad, Det. Steven Aguiar and Det. David DiMartino, were in line to pay at the car wash when they detected an odor of marijuana, and Aguiar noticed Britt allegedly holding a brown, rolled cigar they believed to be the source.”
Acting on their belief, the detectives identified themselves as police and moved to arrest Britt. In the resulting tussle, the detectives think that a man who was with Britt disposed of the cigar. This man has not been charged. The Associated Press reports that “Britt was released on his own recognizance, according to police, and has a June 16 court date.”
