Tyrek O’Hara-Morris was shot in the head at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights. The New York Police Department has arrested 18-year-old Dequan Edwards on charges of second-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon. The name of Edwards’ attorney is not currently known.
This shooting is believed to have occurred in the midst of a gang confrontation and dispute. O’Hara-Morris was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. This 14-year-old was a student of Automotive High School in Williamsburg, and police have records of his repeated run-ins with the law for fighting. However, his devastated mother says, “My son ha[d] no enemies. He ha[d] no enemies. He’s a regular 14-year-old who live[d] with me — his mom — and his siblings. And we ha[d] a pretty decent life…” Despite police reports, Althea O’Hara, Tyrek’s mother, cannot believe that her son had any enemies that would have killed him.
