Black people on average pay more for auto insurance than whites and Asians — not funny. These are the findings of a study conducted by 4Auto InsuranceQote.org. What does make this funny, however, is that they say it is not because we are black. Believe it or not, this can add up in an interesting sort of way.
Insurance companies can get away making this claim because they don’t cipher their clients by color but by attributes and risk factors. These city slickers just amp the bill up for certain attributes and risk factors commonly tied to African American people. These risk factors include having lower credit scores, living in high-crime neighborhoods, and having higher unemployment rates amongst other things. These traits do not define all black people but a decent number of black people. Additionally, anyone of any race could fall into these categories.
So no matter what color you are, you can aid yourself in evading higher auto insurance costs by maintaining a good credit score, trying to live in safer neighborhoods, getting married — and most importantly staying married, and maintaining employment.
