Alicia Keys’ London Black Ball

by Ayvaunn Penn, Your Black World

Alicia Keys’ renowned London Black Ball will take place on June 15th at London’s Roundhouse this year. She has proudly announced that one of the entertainers at her charity gala will be George Michael. Keys released a statement saying:

“George Michael’s work raising awareness and funds for those suffering with HIV has spanned three decades and I’m honored that he has lent his voice to our…cause… His songs have built memories in people’s hearts, mine included, and I’m so excited he is going to join us this year. Just when we think it can’t get any better…It does!”

This annual charity event is one of two Black Balls that Keys hosts each year for her organization Keep a Child Alive. One is always held in New York City while the other is held in London. Keep a Child Alive offers support and medicine to families and children confronted with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

Other artists that have been performed at the London Black Ball include Adele, Annie Lennox, and Jennifer Hudson.
