With U.S. troops still overseas combating in Afghanistan and Iraq, President Obama completed alterations to his national security team. He announced General Martin Dempsey, a forty-year army veteran, as his new Joint Chief’s of Staff.
Having served as Army Chief of Staff for merely a month, Dempsey is replacing current chairman — Admiral Mike Mullen — who is retiring this fall. Obama calls Dempsey “one of our nations’s most respected and combat-tested generals,” and this announcement rounds off Mr. President’s new selections for top military advisors.
