The last stop on President Obama’s six-day European tour concludes today in Poland. According to reports from CBS News chief White House correspondent Chip Reid, our Mr. President will be talking with Poland’s president, on matters concerning a proposed U.S. missile defense system installation. Plans to help Poland become more energy independent will also be discussed.
Russia does not like America’s idea of installing a missile defense system in Poland. CBS reports that “Despite repeated U.S. assurances that the defense system is being designed to counter the threat presented by Iran and North Korea, Russia’s government has expressed concerns that the plan for American missile installations in their backyard could undermine their security.” Nonetheless, Obama is sure that they will reach a consensus. Mr. President released a statement saying that “We’re committed to working together so that we can find an approach and configuration that is consistent with the security needs of both countries, that maintains the strategic balance, and deals with potential threats.”
