News reporters are having a ball telling the world of a split-second mistake President Obama made in not-quite-literary history. Mr. President accidently wrote the inappropriate date in the Westminster Abbey Distinguished Visitors’ Book while signing his name. Instead of writing 2011, he wrote 2008. According to reports, he had even asked Dean of Westminster John Hall what the date was. Obama still put down the wrong digits. A spokesman for Westminster Abbey confirmed that Obama wrote the date himself.
Hopefully at least some people find it to be unfortunate that the president received no credit for his humble words of gratitude and appreciation: “It is a great privilege to commemorate our common heritage and our common sacrifice”. Personally, I really very extremely don’t like all this fuss being made over a little mistake. Sometimes it just seems like people sit waiting for Obama to have a mishap. The man is human, and mistakes can happen to anyone.
